The book of Judges is an exciting and action-filled book of the Bible. The book

relates the stories of heroic men and women of God who delivered the Israelites

from their enemies. As idolatry and apostasy compete with God’s covenant for the

hearts of the people, the judges bring leadership and victory in a time when Israel

had no king. Their divine commission reveals God’s commitment to the covenant

and Israel, even as His people turn away from Him. In this lecture, Dr. Sproul dis-

cusses the period and themes of the book of Judges.
